Protein in the urine

For the prevention of cardiovascular disease, the researchers suggested the definition of normal albumin excretion in the urine.

Healthy people with elevated albumin (small proteins that are found in the blood and is normally found in urine in a given volume) in the urine, even in the limits considered normal are at increased risk of developing high blood pressure, say researchers at Boston. For the prevention of cardiovascular disease, the researchers suggested the definition of normal albumin excretion in the urine. This study analyzed data on 2179 women without baseline hypertension or diabetes, and with normal levels of protein in the urine. The researchers found that elevated levels of urinary albumin excretion, even within the normal range increases risk of developing high blood pressure. Among older women (mean age 65 years), those with the highest levels of albumin excretion were 76% more likely to develop high blood pressure than those with low levels. In younger women (median age 44 years), those with the highest levels had an increased risk of 35%.
