Folic acid in food

Folic acid (or vitamin B9) is essential for cell growth and proliferation because it participates in the synthesis of nucleic acids and the activated compounds.



B9 is particularly important for the proper maturation of blood cells, red blood cells. In the journal Biology BioMedCentral group of authors has shown that due to reduced amounts of folic acid in the medium in which individual cells are cultured mouse prostate cancer there was genetic, epigenetic and phenotypic changes. These changes were not observed in the control group of cells that were grown with the addition of large concentrations of folic acid.
